Come With Me; Travel Edition Day 5: Road Trip to Fethiye

Hi guys!

So, I know I’ve been a little slow with writing this travel series, but I promise it’s due to circumstances beyond my control. At least a good part of it.

Anywayyyyyy, it was my birthday a couple days ago, and you can see photos and videos of everything I got up to on my Instagram here.

Now to the details of the 5th day of our holiday.

We decided to take a road trip to our second destination of the holiday, which honestly was my favorite one, and the one I’ll certainly be visiting again - Fethiye.

Fethiye is a coastal city in the Muğla province of Turkey. It’s an absolutely stunning city with SO much to see and do. I really wish we had more time there, but we only spent 3 nights, and they were chock full of activity. If you’re visiting Turkey in the summer, it should definitely be on your list of places to see. There’s so much to see and do here, so make sure you reserve at least 5 nights for your visit.

Most people don’t think of visiting Fethiye when they’re coming to Turkey. They’re usually more interested in Istanbul and Antalya, but Turkish nationals love Fethiye and consider it one of their biggest holiday destinations.

Our road trip from Alaçatı, Çeşme took about 5 hours, and it was a gorgeous gorgeous drive. The hills, mountains and countryside were so beautiful. My friend commented on how she was grateful she didn’t drive like we initially planned to, because I would have made her stop multiple times for photos. Lol! I did make us stop once to get a photo of a lake tho.

We paid about 900TL for the driver that took us down. It was a regular unpainted sedan, not one of the yellow painted taxis. You can also get to Fethiye directly by taking a flight to the Dalaman airport. If you choose to stay around Çalış beach, it’s about 45km away from the airport.

After 5 hours, we finally got to our hotel on Çalış beach - a resort district and beach in Fethiye. Çalış beach is a long stretch of sand, about 4km with lots of shops, restaurants, hotels, villas and many more in front of it.

Çalış beach comes alive at night with lots of performances, and activity. We didn’t really go to any as our days were full of activity as I said, but we did enjoy a raffle and q&a night one night at dinner with other guests at our hotel. I even won a jigsaw puzzle art piece made by a local artist from the raffle. There was singing, clapping, and dancing amongst the guests, some of whom I presume are locals and regulars with homes around.

Our hotel - Nil boutique was a really cute boutique hotel with a homely vibe. Our host a lovely middle aged lady welcomed us, told us stories about her husband, and made sure we were settled in, before she left. The hotel like most of the others on Çalış beach has a restaurant that opens out to the promenade. The food was way better than everything else we had in Alaçatı too. We had the option of eating at the hotel’s restaurant or taking a stroll down the promenade to any of the many other restaurants on the beach offering all kinds of food. I particularly remember seeing an Italian spot as well as a subway outlet.

Our room had the most gorgeous view of the beach. It had two balconies, from which you could get several views of the sea, beach and promenade. It’s a very soothing and calming view, not to mention extremely gorgeous. Especially if you’re on a relaxing holiday, and you don’t want to go to the beach, but still want to be soothed by the sound of waves swooshing.

We settled in, and spent some time taking in the view, after which my friends went to dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, but I stayed back in, and slept for a few hours.

Çalış beach had the most beautiful sunsets I’d ever seen. I caught a couple, and didn't take photos, but on the first night, just before I went to sleep, I did get one photo of the sun setting. It was the most gorgeous thing, even from the room.

I did have a lot of fun in Fethiye, as you’ll see in my coming posts, and I saw so many wonderful sights that I cannot wait to share with you guys. Fethiye certainly had me marveling at God’s creation. I will certainly go there again.

Look out for Day 6 of my holiday this weekend, to read about all the details of my safari trip. You can also check out Days 1 - 4 if it’s your first time reading my blog to see what I got up to in Alaçatı, Çeşme.

Love, Yoma.
